"Aria, you have to stay in character, hon. You're the Swanna princess. You're suppose to be humble and at the say time depressed because your parents, the king and queen, and the people of your kingdom have been cursed by the evil witch and turned into Swannas and Duckletts." Nyx sunk into his chair and let out a breath of air as he stared at the stage. The stage was almost set up like a Water type gym. Almost the entire stage was a pool of water with a small strip of land, where most of the play would take place. Nyx's sister, Aria, stood on this strip of land in a feathered tutu made of Swanna and Ducklett feathers and a tiara. A pink and blue ducklett stood on either side of his sister, looking just as confused as the young six year-old girl they were performing with.
This was the third time Nyx had to say something to his sister. She was like most six year-olds, easily distracted. The first time Nyx had to intervene, she had become distracted by a ducklett on stage and started to get out of character just as practice started. The second time, Aria forgot her part in the play and this time... she just wasn't playing her character right. Nyx was starting to have a hard time keeping his cool. She's a child, she's a child, he kept repeating to himself. He straightened himself out in the theatre chair, crossing his legs as he stared blankly at his sister. He was petting his beloved Jolee too, who was on his left sporting a debutante trim. "Furfrou-frr." Jolee cooed as he rubbed one of her ears.
"If you cannot take on the lead role, we can give it to someone else." Nyx told her bluntly.
"No! I really want this, I'm sorry, I'll do better, I promise!" The little girl was almost in tears.
"In order to do better, you've got to take this role seriously. You have to-"
BEEP-BEEP-BEEP!
The sound of Nyx's watch begin to go off and his whole mood began to change. A smile spread across his face and he quickly shut the watch off. "Aria, I have to go. If you're still not getting it, I left a very short story I reccomend you read in order to learn how to play this character. Tell Vince and Maria that I've planned this entire year. All the plays, roles, all of that. I planned it and it should all be in a folder in dad's office. I have my pokenav, call me if anything, okay? Come give me a hug." He impatiently waited for his sister to run off the stage through a back entrance and come hug him. "Love you. I'll miss you. Tell everyone else I love them too."
It was time. For weeks he had been preparing for his new journey-- buying the supplies he needed and what not. He had even been preparing for the hours of traveling with much exercise. Nyx was pretty excited about this trip, never seeing much of the Rakuen region before. He's been counting the days and even the hours down until the time had finally come. He made sure he had everything he needed for this journey too, including Jolee and Bleu's toiletries. Damn pampered Pokémon needed brushes, ribbons and bows, and even shampoo. Nyx did not mind taking care of his Pokémon but he had to admit, Bleu and Jolee were spoiled. The Kanto region was partially to blame, the praise they had given the Pokémon had gotten to their head. Bleu and Jolee felt as if they were the fairest of them all now, walking with their head held high. Even now, as they all walked side by side, the two held their head high. Jolee was doing more of a strut then a walk too.
"Before we leave, let's visit the bay, catch a third Pokémon." The idea just seemed to come out of nowhere as they were walking.
The bay was such a lovely sight and it brought back so many memories. He remembers visiting the crystal bay with his mother as a child. They would sit on the shore and let the water kiss their bodies while they ate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. The two would laugh and point out different water Pokémon they saw. Sometimes, Nyx wished they'd stay there forever. Just the two of them.
He stood over the bay with his hands in his pockets, just staring at it for a moment. The memories of his mother were getting to him... closing his eyes, he tried not to cry. "Squir-squir." He felt a tug on his hand and quickly opened his eyes to see his squirtle. Bleu was a pretty squirtle and even without the big bow on her shell, you could tell she was a female. Bleu smiled up at Nyx, pointing to the water. She wanted to swim but not without him. She pulled on his hand until he figured that out. "You really want to?" He began taking off his sneakers, his backpack and rolling up his white jeans. "Jolee, watch our stuff please," was the last thing he said before diving in the bay, holding on to his squirtle.
Playing characters like mermen had taught Nyx how to hold his breathe for long periods at a time. He was able to stay under water for at least nine minutes before surfacing and taking a fresh breathe of air back down with him. Bleu and Nyx played the entire time, Nyx swung his Pokémon around a few times and played a game of tag with her too. Nyx chased Bleu and she chased him. The two swam around the entire bay before Nyx surfaced to take a break, breathing heavily. He had not noticed how far away he was from Jolee - who was lounging around- and his things. He began doggy paddling his way back when something caught his eyes in the clear water. A white stone is what it looked like and he was eagered to take it, diving in to soon grab it. The white stone was burried a bit and he had to pull it out. It took all of his might to pull it out the dirt and once he did, Nyx tucked it underneath one arm and took it to shore. There, he examined it. "This isn't a stone..." It was an egg! But not one he was familiar with. "What the heck is this-" His question was soon answered. The egg began to crack a bit, exposing a head. Then, two arms that slivered out the side. Lastly, feet poked through the bottom too and a Pokemon was soon revealed.
"Togapoeee!" The Pokemon screeched. Nyx just had to take out his pokedex.
The wings of the white Swanna were spread across the sky as it circled above the bay. She was looking for a nice place to land on the beach. On her back was the ever so humble trainer, Melia. She was covered in her flying coat, a mass of black fur that sat on her shoulders yet did not cover her arms at all. Truly, she was the most humble of people. The bird saw an open area on the beach that had very few occupants, the perfect place to land. The creature dove down, causing her trainer to grip the dainty neck in order to not fall off. Once the pair was only a few inches away from the ground, the swan slowed herself by fluttering her wings, performing the perfect gentle and graceful landing.
The Swanna lowered her neck in what appeared to be a bow after the landing. Melia herself slipped off the side of her Pokemon and looked around. It was the perfect day for a swim and later that night she would get her party on. She turned to her Pokemon and smiled, rubbing the head of the creature before returning her to the Pokeball that she belonged to. Her Swanna was just beginning to get the hang of carrying her trainer but she was doing splendidly. Soon she would be able to fly the supplies that were required up the mountain with ease all by herself. It would truthfully save both living residents at the shrine a lot of time if the Swanna could get the hang of supply runs all by herself. If that happened and Melia obtained a second flying Pokemon, supply runs would be a breeze and one less thing they had to worry about. That was beside the point, the coordinator was there to relax before her big night of partying.
She took a deep breath before putting her Swanna's Pokeball in her bag and dropping the bag onto the sand. She turned to face the clear water. There were plenty of trainers and Pokemon out in the water that day. Well, they would all be receiving a visit from the glorious hall leader. She removed her long black vest and set it on top of her bag, revealing one of the highest end bathing suits that money could buy. She looked around before realizing that no one had barely thrown a glance her way. How disappointing. Her white hair wasn't enough to grab anyone's attention and clearly her expensive attire was not working either. Clearly in order to get the gaze of the common public, the ever-so-humble coordinator would have to do something drastic.
Melia began to dig through her bag for a moment before finding the newest Pokeball she had. It did not even have a scratch on it, a sign that it had yet to go on any great adventures. While the Pokemon inside had not been outside in the wild much, he still had plenty of training in him. She had received a rumor a while back that a new traveling stage was coming soon and she had been prepping the only Pokemon she could use in her parent's pool. Of course once the hall renovations were complete the real training could begin. For the moment, the bay would work as a practice stage with the perfect test audience. The woman straightened herself out, releasing the small Buizel from his capsule. The creature sprung forward, looking around with confusion. He was only used to the backyard with the pool, not actual outdoors with other people. "It's fine, it'll just be a small practice run of the routine we are working on. Some exercise will do you well." She patted the Pokemon on the head before wading out into the water, motioning for him to follow.
Together the coordinator and Buizel went further into the water until they were somewhere near the center of the bay, completely prepared to perform when something caught Melia's ear. The small cry of an elusive Pokemon came to her ear. Nearby, there was a Togepi and she just needed to find out where. Her eyes scanned the water until she saw a small.... well... trainer in the water, holding the Pokemon in confusion. In a hurry, she swam over, Otter hot on tail. She had been searching for a Togepi for some time. The creature was a sign of good luck, something she desperately wanted to display in her Ice Hall. When she arrived at the trainer she stared at the Pokemon. She had only seen pictures of the creature and yet here it was before her in the most unlikely of places. "Is that your Togepi? I have been looking for one ever since I entered the League and my, I would pay handsomely for it," Melia gave a small wink, hoping the trainer would pick up on her offer to buy the Pokemon.
"Togepi, the rare Egg Pokémon. Togepi is a baby Pokémon, it imprints with the first image it sees after it hatches, thinking this is its mother. It exhibits a low tolerance for hunger. It is also able to communicate this condition in a very effective manner. Togepi is said to exude a relaxing aura that grows stronger when treated nicely. Togepi is filled with an energy that makes people happy. When treated well, Togepi shares this energy with others, but when it comes near a human with an impure heart this energy quickly disappears, leaving Togepi exhausted.
After the pokédex was done, Nyx locked eyes with the togepi. "So. I'm. Your momma now, eh?" He took a moment to scratch his head. "Well... that's kinda weird considering the fact that I'm a guy." Nyx started to laugh a bit and the togepi did too, mimicking him. Bleu and Jolee moved in closer to examine the new Pokémon in Nyx's arms. "What do you think girls? We have ourselves a new friend! I don't think the togepi will be able to compete in contests though." Both Jolee and Bleu made a noise of excitement, causing the togepi to leap out of Nyx's arms. She wanted to play now and Nyx's Pokémon did too.
He sat on the sandy shore, watching as his Pokémon splashed around in the water. He was surprised to see his partners get a long with the newborn togepi and how careful they were with her. Out of the two, Bleu has always been the gentle one with young Pokémon -- this is mostly likely because she had just came out a baby phase herself a few years ago and understood the mindset of a baby Pokémon. Jolee did not understand infant humans or Pokémon very much and that could clearly be seen in the way she interacted with the togepi. Whilst, she was careful with the togepi in the water, she did not protect it from the large waves the crystal bay provided from time to time that would take the togepi out. Nyx panicked a few times when this happened, ready to jump in and save the togepi but Bleu had proved that she is always there watching the togepi, using protect to block the wave from going over the Togepi's head and taking it out.
With Bleu watching the togepi, Nyx was able to reach into his bag and pull out a PB & J sandwich in a brown paper bag. He was going to save it, wait until they were at least an hour or two into their journey before eating it but for some unknown reason, he was hungry. He devoured the sandwich in less than a minute. Once he was done, Nyx decided to join his Pokémon. "Toga-peeeewee!" The togepi was happy to see Nyx had join them, grabbing on to his leg and not letting go.
"Hey! Togebaby, what are you doing?" He asked playfully before picking her up and holding her up in the air. "You're just too cute! I wonder if you'll-"Nyx stop talking.
A shadow had been casted over the trainer. When he peered up at the sunny sky, he could see that it was some sort of bird that casted the shadow. A Swanna to be exact, he has seen enough of those today to know what one looked liked. A pretty Swanna it was, Nyx's eyes watched it the entire time, a little disappointed to see a trainer on it's back as it landed. You would've been an excellent Pokémon to have on my team. He thought to himself. A swanna had enough beauty to steal a show, they were very large and graceful. He had trained a few in the theatre to know this. Nyx strained his eyes a bit to see the trainer who was so far away. A female, a very pretty female trainer he had to admit. He could tell she took care of herself just from the way her hair was done and the bathing suite she wore. Nyx watched the young woman put one pokémon back in its ball and take out another. A buizel! He was growing excited now. This woman carried two water Pokémon- she just had to be a Water Pokémon trainer, she just had to! He had a feeling...
After diving in the bay with her buizel and swimming to the very center, the young woman had noticed him. Nyx blushed a bit and looked away, a little embarrassed he got caught watching her. She was swimming in his direction now. Nyx grew a little scared, thinking that she was coming over to yell at him. With his head down, he pretended not to notice her coming. But the sound of her arms, breaking the surface of the water as she was swimming was kind of hard to ignore. Then there was the sound of her voice when she reached him. He just had to raise his head and look her in the eyes. "M-my togepi?" He stuttered a bit as the question left his lips. Nyx was already calling the Pokémon his and he didn't even have her for a good hour.
"I'm sorry but... I cannot sell it to you." His voice was soft when he spoke. "You see, I just found the togepi, literally, as an egg and it hatched in my arms and well... now it thinks I'm its mother."
