» APPEARANCE Luce is lazy. This shows in all aspects of his appearance. He walks with his shoulders tight and his neck forward, green eyes either staring at the ground or squinting at his surroundings. A smile from him is a reason for concern. His clothes have been put through the dryer and folded to attract wrinkles, and could hardly be counted as anything besides casual. He dresses nice only when he has to, otherwise it’s all t-shirts, sweatshirts, and loose jeans. His dark brown hair has a bit of a wave to it, somewhat hiding the fact he hasn’t brushed it since yesterday and that he hasn’t bothered to brush that leaf out of his hair from when he absent-mindedly walked into a tree. Luce is the sort to walk into people. He’ll mutter an apology in his quiet and low voice, then depart without making eye contact. He speaks directly and gets to the point - small talk and humor are rarities, the former only showing up if he wants someone to leave him alone. He’s of average height and just below average weight. He’s not strong and he’s not fast, so no, he won’t jog that mile with you. There's a large burn scar on his left shoulder. » PERSONALITY Luce, put simply, is a genius. He excels at anything math or science, and logical and problem-solving puzzles pose little problem to him. School bored him, so he slept through the classes. Small talk faced a similar problem. This along with being a loner type of person, he’s never had much for friends. He craves metal challenges, and will go out of his way to solve them. Normally a lazy and unhelpful person, if someone presents a puzzle and it catches his interest, he will forgo those aspects of himself to find a solution. When Luce is focused on something, he is very focused on it. It will occupy most of his thoughts, to the point he will zone out of conversations to think about it. Further, he is a quick thinker, especially if he’s familiar with the medium. It takes him longer than most to develop a skill, but once he has it down, it becomes second nature to him. Because of his ability to really hone in on things, he can develop such skills quickly (he’ll spend days developing the skill, even missing sleep and meals). Luce is not a person of upstanding morals. If he sees someone in trouble, he’ll walk away. It’s not his problem, is it? He doesn’t share. He doesn’t do teamwork. He’ll run from danger, lie, and is not above dirty tactics if it gets him a return. He’d probably make a great business leader, if only he could speak up and come out of that corner he’s hiding in. The only thing that matters to Luce is himself, which stems from both his logical, unattached look on the world, and his strong ethical egoism. However, this means he’s not judgmental, as he simply doesn’t care. Aspects about society also don’t matter to him as long as they don’t affect them. To say Luce is an introvert is an understatement. He doesn’t like crowds or new people or dull conversations that lead nowhere, yet he gets pushed into those situations much more often than he’d like (being, at all). Luce does not deal well with stress. His childhood was mostly stress free - he got into trouble, yes, but the adults always took care of his mess. Now that he’s taking care of himself, he worries he’s not strong enough to take on the weight of the world. Regret commonly comes to him in the night, or while his mind wanders, and he has a hard time shaking it. He doesn’t know how to deal with how his actions may negatively affect the world around him, both close to him and far-reaching. He can switch quickly between perfectly calm to very stressed, and can enter a loop where he hates himself for feeling upset and only feels more so. Normally this happens when he’s by himself, but if he’s around others he’ll commonly excuse himself and leave without explanation. Other: Luce would fit the INTJ personality type (out of all of them). He likes to read, a lot. His name comes from a mix of his two favorite authors, Luce William and Ellis Dublin. He’s got his favorite book from each of them in paper form in his bag, and several more on his pokedex. Luce doesn’t like puns. He gets brain freeze easily and his teeth are sensitive to cold, so he avoids cold desserts and sometimes ice water. He has a hard time eating the last bit of a meal, because often times he’s full several bites before that and can’t finish it off. He only needs 4 hours of sleep and coffee to be fully functional, and doesn’t get the jitters no matter how much caffeine he drinks. Despite being quite good at math and science, he can’t spell to save his life. Art has also never been his forte, and his handwriting, quoting an old co-worker, is “more illegible than old hieroglyphs”. Luce has not spent much time with pokemon, and all the pokemon he’s worked with in the past were not formally his. Because of this, Luce sees pokemon more as tools than companions; useful animals that are there to help him. While he doesn’t hate or hurt his pokemon, he’s cold and unfeeling towards them. » HISTORY, NON-LEGENDARY VERSION - WOULD BE IN PLAY Luce comes from a far-away region. Then known as Clement Algernon, the first signs of his high intelligence came when he was very young. By the time he reached his teen years he had been scouted to work in one of the region’s laboratories. First he was an apprentice, working under the head scientist, who saw his younger self in the boy. Before long he moved to assistant, and at the age of 15 he had his own team. The lab he worked for was not the sort of pokemon lab that gave new pokemon to the nice young trainers. This was the sort of lab that captured strong pokemon to try and harness their power. Clement’s team was set to work, researching the pokemon the lab had obtained; more often than not illegally. Late one night, Clement had a breakthrough. With the few people left in the lab, they scrabbled together to put his numbers, checked and verified, to the test. They fired up the machines - and something went terribly wrong. The lab was destroyed as fire overtook everything, leaving only Clement alive among the wreckage. He doesn’t like to think about that night, or the burn it left on his left back. Up until then, the lab had been a secret. The illegal experiments, dealings, all of it was unknown to the public or police. The fire destroyed everything, and the hundred or so workers whose employment had been destroyed were forced to move on. Many disappeared, but some, faced with the guilt of their actions, came forward. The external hard drive of all the facility’s work was given to the police. It contained not only the names of all those involved, but their research and records. Past workers began to be arrested. Clement knew his name, Clement Algernon, was on the records, and appeared later in credit records. He’d been lucky to escape that night before anyone arrived, avoiding questioning and putting ground between him and his old haunting grounds. But when access to his bank account and PC were shut off, he knew he had to leave. With the last of his cash, he bought a ticket to the farthest region he could. Now he has a new name; Luce Dublin. A new trainer card, a new PC, and a new life. The past is behind him. Now he’s a pokemon trainer. » HISTORY THAT NEEDS APPROVAL - NOT IN PLAY Luce comes from a far-away region. Then known as Clement Algernon, the first signs of his high intelligence came when he was very young. By the time he reached his teen years he had been scouted to work in one of the region’s laboratories. First he was an apprentice, working under the head scientist, who saw his younger self in the boy. Before long he moved to assistant, and at the age of 16 he had his own team. The lab he worked for was not the sort of pokemon lab that gave new pokemon to the nice young trainers. This was the sort of lab that captured strong and even legendary pokemon to try and harness their power. Clement’s team was one of the teams charged with researching the one legendary the facility kept; Entei. It’s unknown how the lab found such a pokemon, but Clement assumed it was found in a similar way to all the other pokemon the lab lent to its workers. That is, secretly and probably illegally. It was late one night. After weeks of staring at the data and months collecting it, Clement had a breakthrough. He was too excited to wait - he brought his notes to his boss, who, after looking over the numbers and verifying again with another scientist on hand, agreed. Luce had found what they’d been searching for, after two years; a way to harness the power of Entei. They scrabbled together the handful of others who were still in the lab that night. The test failed. Luce still doesn’t know what happened, but it wasn’t some small fizzle out. No, the legendary pokemon was freed, and in its rage, Entei unleashed its full power on the lab. Clement was the only one to survive. He doesn’t like to think about that night, or the burn it left on his back. Up until then, the lab had been a secret. The illegal experiments, dealings, all of it was unknown to the public or police.
