Mina brushed sweat from her brow as she reached the top of the hill. She cringed as her knee felt hot to the touch. Although she knew it would be a difficult task to be a Pokemon trainer, she didn’t take into account how slow the actual walking would be. Her bad knee made it impossible to run, unless she ignored the pain, which she couldn’t. She also couldn’t walk at a normal pace, again, her bad knee assured her of that. She bit her lip as the pain intensified until finally she had to stop. On a sign it read the words ROUTE 1 . A smile pulled at her lips, which were previously set in a painful grimace. Finally, she thought to herself. Now to get through this route and find the first gym. She glanced around for a place to sit but found no place; no bench, not even a large boulder. Mina rubbed her sore knee as hot pain pinched at it. She knew she could simply sit down on the ground, but also knew that it would be harder to get up. Her hand reached for her red cane just as Cherry came up to her side. When Mina glanced to her she saw Perry, her newly caught Shellos, happily riding on her back still. Perry refused to be in a pokeball, but he did agree to go with them. Mina couldn’t exactly carry him with her bum knee, but Cherry, her Spring Deerling, had offered. She realized the irony of it as they were both pink pokemon and wondered to herself if her whole party would match. Although, Mina didn’t mind. Pink wasn’t her least favorite color and it would be cute.
“We should train a bit before we reach the first gym. I hear Crystal city uses dark type pokemon, which are quite formidable.” She felt her heartbeat quicken as her excitement grew. She was so close now, though she knew she should be a bit worried. None of her Pokemon were the fighting type, though she knew from her reading that Deerling knew some fighting moves. If she caught some bug pokemon that would work too. Mina knew from her town map, that route one had plenty of grass types, but she wasn’t interested in that. Cherry covered that, but it wouldn’t hurt to train a bit. If she did catch a pokemon, well there was that too. Besides, usually in grassy areas bug pokemon could be found and maybe even some fairy-type. Both of which were strong against dark types. “So, Cherry, Perry, let’s go.” Mina grabbed Perry from Cherry’s back, though she had to catch herself before she fell. Cherry shook herself off, probably relieved at the weight decrease, and headed into the grass. Although she was swall, and the short grass nearly touched her ankles. Mina followed, but her limp slowed her progress. “Did you find something, Cherry?” She asked breathlessly as she set Perry down on the grass. The slug pokemon crawled forward before jumping back, accidentally pushing Mina to the ground. She rubbed her side, annoyed. “Perry, what is it? Did you find something?” She asked a bit too loudly, though Perry seemed unfazed. He had a goofy smile on his face, but stood still, telling Mina he did in fact see something, but what was it?

| Weedle weedle weedle, weedleweedleweedle, weedle weedle, weedleweedleweedle. The song of her people was the most beautiful song in the world and she was the most beautiful singer in the world. If everyone could hear her sing at least once they would be filled with joy and happiness and understand the meaning of life. At least all of the Weedle that lived in her tree seemed to understand life in all of it's wonder. Her job was to spread that wonder to all of the Pokemon of the world. After having finished her morning song, the small little bug looked around. She needed to be extremely fashionable that day. She planned on crossing the route and heading to the boulder hotel where many other bug Pokemon stayed. She was booked to sing for them so not only did she have to look good for the performance but she had to be ready for the paparazzi.
Finally, the little Weedle found the perfect outfit to go out in. She stuck her horn through a leaf and wore it like a fancy hat. Amazing! With her outfit decided and her task at hand, she set out from the tree and began to work her way through the grass, towards the path so she could make it to the boulder to sing. It was on her way to the boulder that she came across the biggest paparazzi she had ever seen. The woman must have been five feet tall! Quickly, the Pokemon began to strike poses hoping that only the best would show up in the magazines. Another paparazzi member quickly joined the large woman. This one was pink! Oh man he had to be from the fashion magazines. The Weedle started striking her best poses for the Shellos. Today would surely be a good day. |

Mina waited to see if Cherry had found anything, then sighed when her Deerling brought back a bright-colored flower. She took it from her, knowing she had only been trying to help, and tucked it in her hair, next to her ear. “How do I look?” She chuckled, surprising herself. Mina knew she was tired now. If only there was a bench somewhere, even a large rock? She didn’t care, as she just wanted to give her knee a rest.
“Sure wish I could ride a pokemon but I’m lucky that I have two small pokemon.” She said as she rubbed her knee. Mina reached for her cane to lean on it, keeping her face down as trainers passed her, whispering. Although they were probably remarking on her adorable pokemon, she couldn’t help but think they were laughing at her bum leg. She only glanced up when they had passed far enough not to see her plum-colored cheeks.
That was when she heard Perry make a weird noise. “This better not be another flower…” She growled as her feet carried her to where the pink slug pokemon was sort of waving in front of a pokemon. If you could call moving those short, slimy suckers waving. Mina sighed in relief as she spotted the orange-yellow bug pokemon, Weedle. “Well that will surely help me in the next gym battle. What in star’s name does it have on it’s head? Is it stuck on it’s horn?” Mina kneeled, gritting her teeth as hot pain pinched at her left knee. She reached out and went to lift the leaf off of the weedle’s horn.

| The paparazzi leaned forward, not even bothering to take out her camera. Soon she was attempting to lift the leaf from the little Weedle's head. "WHOA! Who do you think you are?!" The little bug scuttled backwards, reaching her tiny hands up to grab at the leaf to make sure it was still fashionably placed. Who did this paparazzi worker work for? She needed to get her fired for touching her hat. "If you want to take pictures, take them with the hat on. You are not allowed to touch me." The bug lifted her nose to the air and walked around the paparazzi team. They were the oddest pairing she had ever seen. "If you really want some good pictures, the stage at the boulder will have perfect lighting and you can get some action shots." The weedle shook her head as she continued on her journey to her performance, no longer thinking of the paparazzi. |
