s Jodie reached into the barrel, a familiar chill went up her spine. “Ghost!” Jodie muttered excitedly, standing up to look around before she could get any candy. The lid to the barrel went THAWP! happily.
Her ghost senses were never wrong, for there, floating, was a pokemon Jodie immediately recognized as shuppet. She took a sharp breath in. She’d never caught a shuppet.
“Aren’t we lucky?” Jodie said excitedly.
Beldum bobbed menacingly up and down. He was ready for this. Jodie, feeling tired what with it being four in the morning but not at all wanting to admit it, called out to beldum a simple, “Attack!”
And attack they did. Beldum put his heart and soul into the one move they knew: take down. With all the little pokemon’s might, they shot themself at the shuppet. They were on target, they were going to hit…!
Trainer and pokemon realized at the same moment that this wasn’t going to work. The beldum phased through the shuppet and shot out the other side, ramming full-force into an empty metal garbage container.
The steel type shook themself off and backed up from the container. Someone would be very unhappy when they woke up a few hours later to find their nice metal box with a new deep dent the size of a small scooter. One of the second floor windows in the building to the south lit up.
It was a heroic act to distract the trainer from the barrel but it was worth it to protect the candies. The trainer soon sent out her Beldum to use take down. The attack looked like it would be a dead on hit but instead the opponent flew straight through the ghost, smashing into the surroundings. The Shuppet cackled at the loud ruckus that the enemy caused. She fluttered closer to the Pokemon, wondering what other attacks it would use. Well, she didn't have much time to think, if they were already attacking, she needed to attack herself.
The Shuppet flew backwards before letting out a loud screech. She hoped that her horrifying noise would distract the opponent and give her a chance to land a good hit. After closing her mouth from the screech, her eyes narrowed as the small puppet's shadow stretched out across the ground. It stopped growing once it was behind the Beldum and in the right position. Suddenly the shadow reached up in an attempt to hit the enemy.
eldum recoiled at the loud screech emanating from the shuppet, and was still reeling when she struck them from behind. Beldum shot back around to their trainer’s side. Their levitation was low to the ground.
Well, this wasn’t going to go anywhere but down. “Sorry Beldum, next time.” Jodie said as she returned the blue pokemon. Her only other pokemon on hand was Gengar, so, her choice already made for her, the ghost type appeared in a flash of light. It was in this light that Jodie caught something odd. Was that shuppet… blue? Now she had to catch the pokemon; bragging rights and all.
The gengar blinked drowsily, finding himself floating on his side. “Gengar, use mean look then night shade!” Jodie didn’t know how powerful this pokemon was in comparison to her gengar, and she didn’t want to knock it out by accident with a more powerful move.
Slowly, the ghost type righted himself and faced the shuppet. His brow furrowed, he gave the shuppet a look that said “if it weren’t for you I could be sleeping right now”. Then, challenging that lazy anger, he created the illusion of himself behind the shuppet, only much larger and much, much more angry. Fire burned in the fake gengar’s mouth and sparks flew from its eyes like someone’d dumped water on their pokedex. Gengar wasn’t feeling particularly creative tonight.
After the shadow sneak had successfully hit, the trainer switched out her Pokemon. The Beldum disappeared and was shortly replaced with a very drowsy looking Gengar. The trainer called out her next series of attacks with her Pokemon lazily executing them. First a mean look frightened the Shuppet causing her to cower on the ground right before the night shade hit her. She shook her head at the damage, trying to get rid of some of the pain she was feeling. Well, a new Pokemon meant the same old strategy, after all, it was her signature opening. The Shuppet let out another screech in hopes of being stronger against the Gengar. After the horrifying sound had ended, her shadow stretched behind the enemy Pokemon, raising two fists that were ready to strike.
engar covered his ear tuffs with his little stubby hands. His eyes squeezed shut as though that would help with the annoyingly loud high note, he wasn’t aware of the pokemon’s attack from behind. Like a kicked beachball, Gengar bopped up into the air, where he sort of fought against gravity pulling him back down.
Jodie’s ears were ringing from two successive screeches. That move, it was the bane of trainers. So many wild pokemon, so many yells, so many headaches. Her annoyance channeled into her next command. “Gengar, show her a real shadow attack. Shadow punch!”
The shadow of the building stretched to welcome in the gengar. The ghost moved unseen through the darkened surface, before suddenly leaping up behind the shuppet. His fist glowed purple like the fury of a thousand alarm clocks.
The moment Gengar swung, before he could distance himself again, Jodie called, “Hypnosis!” Gengar yawned, and focusing his energy into a thin beam, attempted to share his fatigue with the other pokemon.
The Shuppet's attacks were a success. The Gengar seemed to be injured from the Shadow Sneak and this time, the trainer did not recall the Pokemon. That was good, she was finally getting somewhere. It was then that, seemingly out of nowhere, a flurry of fists struck the little ghosts from behind. She flew forward and into the ground. Slowly the Pokemon rose, clearly in pain from the two attacks that the Gengar had unleashed on the poor little ghost. She looked at the opponent as her eyes began to glow red. The red began to spread into a visible aura before unleashing a series of red beams towards the Genger. The move mimic'd the enemy's first attack though it was quite a weaker version of it.
he beams were startling - not what the Gengar was expecting from the night shade. Still, the ghost type had seen much more frightening things from his travels. The move didn’t do much but make him retreat back to a safer distance.
The shuppet looked like she was starting to get tired. Jodie didn’t want to risk knocking her out with a stronger move, and so called to gengar, “lick!”
Gengar looked between Jodie and the shuppet without response. Yawning, he guessed he’d better get on with it, and glided slowly back into melee. His mouth opened, wide enough to cover a third of his round body, and, hovering over the shuppet, looked almost as if he were going to eat the pokemon whole. Instead, he just used lick.
Jodie, meanwhile, pulled one of her ultra balls from her bag. There was a skill in knowing when to throw it, and when that moment arose, she would be ready.
It was after the night shade hit the Gengar that the ghost Pokemon had a surge of power. She was doing so well she might have a chance of getting out of the battle with her life and freedom still in tact. The small victory was short lived because the Gengar soon countered with a lick. At first, the Shuppet began to panic, thinking that the opponent was about to eat her alive but it soon changed directions when, inches from her face his tongue stuck out, covering the Pokemon in ghostly slime.
The little ghost cried out in pain and stumbled backwards through the air as best as a floating ghost could stumble. Her breathing was labored as she took a moment to collect herself. Why was the enemy so big and strong and terrifying? She took in a deep breath, hoping to give the battle one final 'hurrah' in an attempt to escape. She slowly lifted her arms as all of her energy channeled into a black mass before her body. It took quite a while for the black ball to reach its full power but as soon as it did, the Shuppet released the attack, sending it towards the Gengar.
skill indeed. Jodie watched the shuppet grow her shadow ball carefully. Gengar waited patiently, but when no order came he looked back at his trainer, his face confused and asking, “aren’t you going to do something about this?”. Yes, yes she was. The moment the shadow ball left the pokemon’s hands, Jodie’s ultra ball left hers. Thrown with all the force she could muster, the ball shot at the ghost pokemon. Jodie’s good aim guided it directly to the pokemon’s forehead.
The ball fell to the ground. Gengar, on the other hand, saw the attack coming (how could he not, from that wind up) and took it upon himself to brace for the impact. The ghost type skidded back in the air with the shuppet’s last attack, but due to his preparedness, weathered the super effective blow. He looked tiredly at Jodie.
“Thanks, Eddy. We’ll go right to the pokemon center. Just down the street, I think.” Jodie told him with a smile. The gengar yawned, and Jodie returned him. Jodie was left alone with the shaking pokeball and her thoughts.
What was the deal with these candies, anyway? Why had the shuppet attacked her? All she’d done was reach into the barrel… Jodie remembered something about not being supposed to eat the little golden things. What could be so important about them? Jodie thought she’d find out.
Reaching into her back, Jodie located and unwrapped one of the little golden candies. She looked at it a moment, before, without a second thought, popping it into her mouth.
. Shuppet || Female || Insomnia The darling Shuppet is a good-hearted Pokemon who only wants to assist. She follows commands easily and is as loyal as loyal comes. She is brave and has the heart of a true hero. In all truth, the Shuppet is the exact image of a star student reflected into the form of a ghost Pokemon.
Upon eating the candy, things suddenly change for Jodie. The world goes completely black for a moment before returning but in odd colors. What was once a dull green transforms into a vibrant purple. Blues become neon yellow, yellows turn orange. Everything is bathed in a simplified color palette drawn up by what feels like a little child. In front of the woman was a large black beast connected to the barrel. The barrel raised itself, revealing it to be the head of the beast. The beast howled out at the trainer, picking her up and lifting her over the melting buildings to a nearby street. His howls of pain could still be heard on the other streets. The hallucinations grow more vivid and will disappear after a few days.
