Nineteen. twelve. Seven.
Age. time spent with his parents. time spent without his parents.
Now, it seemed like so long ago. The choice to leave his parents behind was something that he never expected he would do at any given point in time, but, now that he had, the time to reflect on it made it all seem so... inconsequential. now that he thought about it, his father really was horrible. He didn't even seem to love his mother anymore, and he had treated his own son like an object. now that he thought about it, leaving his mother probably tore the woman apart, as if she had been betrayed by her. and, yet, it didn't matter to him. at least, that's what he thought. any emotion he once had whenever he reminisced the past seemed to be void and null these days.
ah, but, this doesn't matter anymore. he had the gang to think about, and he had promises to fulfill... even if he knew he could only keep so many of those promises. they even told him not to make promises he couldn't keep, but it did seem to give them an inkling of hope for his return. they were his home now, and he would always return home. ugh, why am i even thinking about this? the single eye shown through his stark white bangs, the darkly colored iris that wasn't covered by a black, leather patch, narrowed at the path ahead. he had his hands stuffed in his pockets as the excess material of his oversized t-shirt plumed over, covering his pale skin. since it was still too hot to wear his more favored sweaters, he had to deal with having his arms exposed. at least he had a tendency to buy shirts that were two or three sizes too large.
he paused his steps just before he accidentally passed the sign reading Crystal Pokemon Laboratory. He glanced around before turning towards the door, stepping forwards as he the doors opened automatically for him. "Hello?" he called out, searching for a receptionist or an assistant.
The Purrloin swatted at the fuzz sticking out of the top of the pen. Milly, the new receptionist, was becoming quite annoyed at the Pokemon. She was trying to get caught up on the piles of paperwork on her desk but every minute the cat either knocked something over or a new trainer looking to start their grand adventure to conquer the region came bounding in, only adding to the paperwork. Milly let out a sigh and stared at the Pokeball for a minute. She desperately wanted to put it away but having a Pokemon out was inviting and fun for the children. The receptionist was about to let out another sigh when the doors swooshed open, letting in the warm air as well as another child trainer ready to annoy her to death.
She looked up, placing the most fake smile on her face in order to please the big boss man who signed her paychecks. Who walked in shocked her. The smile was wiped clean from her face as a white haired young man walked in. He was far older than the average trainer who walked in, probably only a few years younger that Milly herself. The Purrloin perked up and hopped down to the floor, approaching the man. He said his hello but it took quite a minute for the receptionist to gather her thoughts. "Um yes, hello. Are you here to get your starter Pokemon?" She was hesitant. Some people came in to ask a question about their Pokemon but often they had it at the ready. Perhaps he was just a little delayed in releasing his Pokemon.

His uncovered black eye swept across the open room he had entered, flitting from the walls to the furniture and eventually to the front desk where a woman and a feline Pokemon resided. he idly watched the purrloin for a few moments as it messed with the woman and everything around her, only to have its attention captivated by him as soon as he had spoken. he remembered a neighbor owning a purrloin back in the village. she was elderly, and the feline provided endless amusement and comfort for the woman. she was probably dead by now or hooked up to more machines than he had seen when he was younger. hm, that cat was probably with a relative now... though, knowing his grandparents, they had probably taken the cat in if that was the situation.
"yes, i am." his voice came out soft yet flat as he removed his single eyed gaze from the approaching purrloin and to the receptionist. he looked at her expectantly, hoping she would get the whole paperwork process going so he could leave as soon as possible. one of his friends had boasted that stealing a pokemon would be easier than getting one through the laboratory. it would have been easier since he wouldn't have to deal with paperwork, but, if he wanted to go through the league, it would be easier for him to actually, well, register and go through all the legal crap so he qualified.
he glanced down once more at the purrloin, letting out a slight sigh as he crouched down. the white haired boy slipped his hands out of his pockets, crossing one over his legs while the other reached out towards the feline pokemon, beckoning with a small twitch of the fingers. entertaining a cat while he waited would be perfectly fine. ah, wait. "i do have an appointment," there was a moment of pause as he kept his gaze fixated on the purrloin before he spoke up once more. "for nalani." just like he had over the phone a few weeks before, he did not give his last name. just the first.
'Yes I am' he said. Milly nodded and hummed lightly to herself as she shifted through the paperwork to find a blank form for him to begin filling out. She sighed as she realized all of the blank forms were in the supply room, only slowing her down further. She started to stand in order to retrieve one when he mentioned that he had an appointment under the name of Nalani. "Ah," she breathed out, changing her direction to a small tray on her desk with a folder labelled for appointments. The receptionist nodded to herself as she fished out Nalani's and the proceeded to get a clipboard for him to write with. "Here, fill this out and I will be right back with three options for you to choose from."
As soon as the clipboard had made it safely into the young man's hand, Milly quickly made her way back into the storage room. Pokeball upon Pokeball was lined up on the shelves ready for the picking. She truthfully had just been grabbing the first Pokemon that she saw all day long for the little children who came in, but this was different. She walked slowly to where they kept the starter packs, picking one Pokemon at a time. Once she had all three and the pack, Milly returned to the main lobby, smiling as she set the pack on the desk and spread out the three balls. "Your choices," she cleared her throat as she released a Cyndaquil first. The little creature looked up at the trainer without much interest before he circled around and curled up into a tired little ball. He had seen many trainers that day and been turned down by all of them. Next the receptionist released a small Joltik. She was the runt of her siblings but as soon as she was released the Pokemon was bouncing around, filled with energy and excited to finally see a trainer. She jumped before the young man and wiggled her body, eager to finally have a chance at proving her worth. Finally Milly released a Honedge. It floated above the ground as it scanned over the trainer, evaluating him with everything it had, clearly displeased with the choice that Milly had given it.

pale hands reached up and grabbed the clipboard with all the wonderful paperwork that would end up binding him to the government. ah, hopefully he could find a way to erase everything after it was entered into the system. then all he would have to do is burn the physical copies. there was someone in the gang who was well versed with technology... chances are, he would just get them to teach him how to hack so he could do it on his own. shaking his head once the woman had left, he got up from the feline Pokemon and took a few steps over to the front desk, scanning the surface before reaching up to snatch a pen. leaning back against the edge of the desk, he scribbled down his information. at least, he gave them only what was required. he wrote down his father's address for the place of residence, figuring the man wouldn't care either way. hell, he might have already moved out by now. some poor scrap was going to get junk mail from the laboratory because of him.
he chuckled at the idea, but the sound was cut short as the woman returned. he ignored her, finishing what he could of the paperwork until all that was left was areas that the staff needed their signatures on. nalani set the clipboard and pen on the desk, pushing himself away as the woman released the pokemon that would become an eternal part of his life... well, that wasn't necessarily true. he could easily just ditch them once better Pokemon arrived. ah, but, that would be rude. besides, as he eyed the pokemon as they were released, he was pleasantly pleased with his choices. despite only going to school until he was twelve, he could easily name them after pouring over picture books filled with pokemon during his childhood. as for their actual stats... nope. probably would never happen. he could at least make judgement based off of their appearances.
let's see... cyndaquil is a fire type, if i'm not mistaken. burning through his enemies would always be a wonderful strategy until he ended up facing off against a water type... or a rock type. no, even then, a strong enough flamethrower will melt even the strongest stone. though, this little one seemed to be uninterested. i would be, too, if i was neglected in this establishment. his single eyed gaze moved to the small spider who bounded before him. his arms crossed over his chest, burying in the excess fabric of his shirt. joltiks are... electric types. and bug types. though small, their evolution is a lot larger. the small size would also be great with stealth. the sheer amount of energy might be a problem, though. ah, but, perhaps that meant there was more stamina. onto the sword, he found himself staring a little longer than he probably should have. honedge was definite quite the catch, and it wasn't everyday that they were found. plus, who wouldn't want a cool ghost sword?
this was definitely a hard decision. he could either allow himself to be guilt tripped into taking the fire shrew, risk the potential of stepping on the joltik, or have a sword to make believe that he was a knight in shining armor. death by barbecue, electrocution, or either fatal wounds or having the life drained from you. which would be more fulfilling? his eye swept across the choices before he returned his gaze to the woman. "I'll take the cyndaquil." there was always the possibility of getting the others later on, anyway. he could get by with that hope.
Congratulations on choosing your first Pokemon. You may now start your journey as a trainer. Below are the items that you receive in your starter pack as well as the needed information on your new Cyndaquil. Enjoy!

. Cyndaquil || Male || Blaze The small cyndaquil spent the beginning of his life in a lab, constantly being taken out to be shown to various trainers or to have little children play with him only to be left alone and forgotten. He gained trust issues quickly, losing faith in being taken and thinking he would be in the lab forever. He is not a large fan of children or people in general after having been turned down so often and never likes to obey those he does not like.
