The club below was was alive and kicking with DJ Noisebat dropping the sickest of beats. The grand opening for Champion SIX was in full swing as trainers, breeders and pokemon enthusiasts of all stripes poured into the lobby. Some were here for the new club, or to mix and mingle with others of their ilk but most were here for the pokemon contest. Four competitors had been drawn at random from an abundance of entrantes. Davey, Luce, Lemley and Amber. To round out the six person contest two of Rakuen's primer gym leaders had been invited as well. Jodie representing the Lost Shire, and of course hometown hero Nattousai whose gym was located not too far from the towering skyscraper that was Champion SIX. As crowds filled into the lobby below they gazed upon large screens displaying the contestants posing with these pokemon. The six contestants had arrived early to prepare for the first event of the night. The presentation portion. Each had been given a pedestal on which to display their pokemon. Each trainer would be permitted a brief speech to explain what made their pokemon unique before the crows were allowed to enter the room and look at the displayed pokemon. Here they would vote for their favorites before moving on to the next section.
The room itself had screens behind each pokemon showing the same images as in the lobby. The rest of the room was empty and white with blue lights casting a soft hue on the wall. Above each pokemon was a light to illuminate the pokemon in a color choses by its trainer. Write a short speech about your pokemon. Then describe how they look and how they are behaving as well as what your character is doing. If you would like to have a conversation with another player or one of the NPC contestants start a seperate thread. You may vote for as many of the other pokemon as you like. You may not vote for yourself. You must vote at least once (twice if you entered two characters) in order for any votes cast for you to count. Pokemon on the first tier of their evolution will get one extra point for this section because they are adorable and are at a disadvantage in the battle portion. PM your votes to Q, do not tell people who you voted for or ask for votes. Wait until everyone has posted before you submit your vote. Each vote earns one point towards your total score which will be tallied at the end of the contest. Good luck have fun!
When Davey's manager first heard of this club, he wanted him to make a brief appearance, say hello to the owners and take a few pictures for his fan base website and Davey considered doing it at first. But than he heard about the contest and he just couldn't pass it up. It included everything he enjoyed, including showing off his pokémon. He enjoyed showing people just how cute Angel can be and he just couldn't wait. Like all the other contestants, Davey was asked to arrive to prepare for the first event- his favorite event. He brought in a lot of fabrics, clothes and clothes for his little Igglybuff. "Okay Angel let's get started! This round is easy, we know all about fashion and fashion shows are all about display!" The pokémon made a noise in agreement.
He did everything just in time. People started flooding in and crowding around the contestant's table. It was time for him to make a speech.
"I believe you are all familiar with an igglybuff- one of the cutest baby pokémon alive. Well, I'd like for you all to meet my very first pokémon and partner, igglybuff who I have nicknamed Angel. Why you might ask, well because she has been sent from the heavens to guide me through this world of pokémon. She has been sent to protect and love me. I love this pokémon with all my heart, she brings out the best of me! Angel is just full of energy too, she can't sit still to save her life! She loves the attention too, she loves the spotlight that is given to her. She loves life, she loves every aspect of being alive! Angel is more than just a adorable pokémon, there are so many aspects being overlooked. This pokémon has one of the purest hearts- can you see it?"
Today, Davey made sure Angel was cleaner than she had ever been. She smelled of strawberries and her ballon-like skin seemed to sparkle under the display lighting. Speaking of the display, Davey had covered it in a beautiful silk cloth with Angel's name stitched into it. Angel wore a large navy blue bow over the three tendrils of hair she had on the top of her head. Whilst, she had no neck, Davey still put a necklace on her, which was held up by her two little arms. The necklace was a simple string with pearls and a little heart locket that was open, showing a beautiful picture of Davey and Angel hugging each other. Angel was floating, moving side to side with a big smile. The pokémon was also humming, since she couldn't exactly sing yet. Angel's humming was a beautiful melody you couldn't help but stand there and listen to. Angel wanted nothing more than everyone's eyes on her.
Luce coughed in the microphone. The device created a cracking screech over the speakers. Beginner’s luck was not applying to the sound system and Luce, as he stood in front of all these strangers who were looking back expectantly, hoped the microphone hadn’t just set the president for his presentation.
Luce cleared his throat again. “Ladies, gentlemen, and others!” He began, forcing gusto into his voice. “Here he is, the stunning, the vibrant, Finneon!” Luce waved to his little water type, who, on cue, jumped into the air from his tank of water. The pokemon’s shimmering scales glow in the spotlight, lighting the water and the walls around the crowd like a mass of rainbow sequins, each fleck reflecting light like a little mirror. Only when the pokemon turned to show his left side did the color show shift, the discolored and gnarly scar on his left fin distorting the light unevenly. Luce, with the help of Nurse Joy, had removed the old fishing line that had caused such an injury, allowing the wound itself to heal. Still, a history of the event remained on the pokemon.
“Now, he may not be as perfect and flawless as his brethren Finneon, but even that scar has not stopped this pokemon from trying his best!” Luce continued into the microphone. He was playing up the underdog trope - people liked to relate to that.
What had Luce done to prepare for this? In truth, absolutely nothing. He’d seen the posters for the event, saw the offer of “prizes”, and thought “I may as well sign up”. He hadn’t actually expected to be picked and hadn’t had the motivation to train his finneon, his most contest-oriented pokemon, at all. Swimming around in slow, wide loops, occasionally jumping from the water with flourish, that was all the pokemon’s own intuition.
As the crowd churned through the new club, Luce spoke in circles. Underdog, it’s what’s on the inside that counts; remarkable, extraordinary, staggering, incredible, outstanding, synonym of “stunning”, repeat.
This is why Luce became a trainer, not a coordinator.
It was the moment of truth for Nattousai and his undying fanbase of Dizhen City, they were all expecting him out there, and they were all expecting a brilliant and dazzling showcase of his one and only, amazing, one of a kind, acrobatic and uncanny Crobat! Crobat was one of his best Pokemon; a carefully trained, deeply bonded and insatiable creature of grand ability. He would be doing everybody an injustice if he had chosen any other Pokemon for this contest, and doing himself a horrible disservice to everything that the Crobat represented and could do. It was her time to shine, and Crobat was so very ready to strut its stuff. Being the Gym Leader of the city, Nattousai had to really prove his worth in this competition, and not try to win simply because everyone in the city knew and adored him, he would prove that he could hang with the best of them by sheer skill and talent alone.
He would need to prove, evidently, that he didn't need cheers and adoration on his side, he could do this on his own, and he had hoped the others including the judges wouldn't give him any sort of advantage for being the Gym Leader of such an extravagant city. Nattousai waited eagerly at the pedestal with his Crobat, waiting until the time was just right when he was going to be up, and once it was his turn, he began the appeal. He waved hello to a live wire crowd taking up and absorbing their energy like a sponge. He then winked at some of the girls in the audience and blew a kiss. Afterwards, he reached into his pockets and splayed purple glitter into the air in a perfect arching motion over the Crobat's head, and then over his own. The Crobat spread its mighty and freshly scrubbed wings widely out into the space, expanding in a vast outstretched angle to properly showcase each nicely and beautifully chiseled bone and pigment of skin on it.
Nattousai began to speak about his much loved Pokemon, proud of its alluring stature. "Crobat...what is there to say? A magnificent specimen that to my dismay, many are often actually afraid of." He waited to hear a gasp of some sort from the crowd or a reaction of fear, but he didn't quite hear much of anything. Most in the audience were familiar with Nattousai's Crobat already, for it had flown around and introduced itself to many of the residents within the city in the past, always flying high above the skyline as if to mark its territory of the place and signify itself as its protector. "But this particular Crobat is actually beyond friendly. She loves to, well, love on others....and her beaming eyes just melt your heart. Observe!" Nattousai opens his palm to his Crobat and extends his arm towards its large, glowing eye balls. The Pokemon's entire body glistens as a big spotlight shines down upon it, and with the light, its eyes shone brightly and illuminated into a radiant amber color. It blinked its pretty eye lashes, freshly done by Nattousai himself with careful precision.
"And it especially loves when you rub upon its belly, as such. You will have a forever friend in this lovely lady by stroking your hand along its spotless and squeaky clean tummy. Just look at her response!" Nattousai runs his hand along the Crobat's chest while it puffs out its breast to him and then he reaches for her belly and starts with a tender stroke of his fingers, then goes into a nice, steady scratch. Her legs kick and flinch in a comatose lust. Her wings gently bend around Nattousai embracing his affections. She then smiles with a blush, and nuzzles Nattousai hugging her Trainer in happiness. He stops the itching and cuddling up to his Pokemon and directs his words back to the crowd. "Not a mean creature at all is it? Just the opposite. Anyone can approach this Pokemon with a desire to pet or caress it, and you will get the same reaction. It was raised with the utmost care and companionship, so you wouldn't ever have to be afraid. And the best part is, in battle it goes right back to being serious and a deadly contender when it must. But outside of a battle, it can be your very best friend." Nattousai pats its back and itches behind its head, the Crobat lets out a soft cry, soaking in the attention.
"That's all I have to say about my adorable and obedient friend here. She is my bright light in the darkness, and my family. Someone I trust, someone I can depend on, and loyal to the max. Consider getting yourselves a Crobat some day, you won't regret it! Thank you for your time!" He waves to the crowd once more, finishing up his speech and setting his microphone upon the pedestal. The Crobat stretches her mighty wings one last time, and slowly spins around for the audience so everyone can see her, and revel in every inch of her well taken care of and recently groomed figure. A hearty and healthy bat, the Pokemon waves to everybody watching her with her large wings elongated as glitter drifts from the tips of them and lulls through the air dissipating over the heads of crowd members and some of the judges.
he stage was dark, the only source of light the pokedexes of the gathering trainers. Jodie strode onto stage. Each step echoed ominously. Then, a single light clicked on, illuminating a circle on the stage. In it stood the gym leader, microphone in one hand, the other raised to the crowd. “Hello Dizhen City!” She said, her voice booming over the microphone. Cheers rise at the mention of the town’s name.
“Say, have you ever stared into the face of death? Ghosts, I mean. Don’t be a liability, kids.” Jodie coughed. “Well, I have. I’ve crossed the land, searching far and wide for all the ghost pokemon who inhabit our world. The small ones, the friendly ones, the ones that go bump in the night and haunt your dreams. I’ve even made my life’s work out of it! So as a ghost-type trainer, you can bet I brought the best of the best with me. Well, you lucky betters, prepare to make your fortune; I present to Champion SIX, The Grim Reaper!” Bowing dramatically, Jodie motioned beside her. Another spotlight flickered. Another circle appeared on the wooden stage. “She’s- ah, she’s gone.”
Jodie put a hand to her brow, trying to scan the dark crowd for her pokemon. Suddenly, a purple and black form floated up through the floor, taking the other spotlight. “Where’ve you been off to?” The aegislash dropped something into Jodie’s hand. “Are these… someone’s keys?” The ghost type cackled to herself.
“Uh, if you’ve lost you keys, I’ll give these to the front desk after the show.” Jodie sighed. “Anyway, this is Grim the Aegislash! The first time we met she tried to kill me. Right?” The aegislash laughed again, making the sound of metal against metal. “Since then she’s been nothing but trouble; stealing people’s stuff, taking my stuff, haunting trainers - those of you who have taken my gym challenge know what I’m talking about. But you also know that she’s one heck of a fighter. Grim’s ability lets her change her form with the use of the move King’s Shield. Go ahead and use it now, Grim!”
The pokemon creaked. The shield she held in her left hand snapped onto her blade, her two ribbon-like arms gliding into place behind it. “Then, with an attack, she changes back. Use Slash!”
The Grim Reaper gracefully slid the shield off on one hand and swung at the air, slicing at nothing with a woosh! sound.
“Thanks everyone! That’s all. Enjoy the party!” Jodie waved to the crowd and turned to smile at her pokemon. Grim had, once again, vanished. This was going to be her evening.
The girl took the stage, clearly nervous in the spotlight. She wore a school uniform and still had her backpack on. "I uh. I should be studying but I couldn't pass up the chance to show you the joy of my life. Purrloin." The girl said with a smile, but there was no Purrloin to be found anywhere. The girl shook her shoulders a bit, jostling her backpack. From inside came an irritated meow. Amber took the pack off her back and turned it upside down, shaking it a few times until the pokemon fell out. Landing on its feet the Purrloin seemed unphased by the whole event and began to lick its paws to groom its face. "Purrloin is a beautiful if somewhat eccentric pokemon. With the softest coat and most beautiful eyes you've ever seen. She comes with me everywhere and always knows just when to come sit on top of my text book. If it weren't for her i'd never get a break." The girl chuckled nervously. "There isn't much else to say. I look at all these other great pokemon here tonight but I wouldn't trade my Purrloin for any of them. She isn't perfect but she's mine and we have each other." The Purrloin rubbed against its trainers leg and allowed itself to be picked up. "Stop by and take a closer look at her later."
Violinist Lemley
"Poise, grace, beauty." The melodic voice echoed across the stage and the lights focused on a Roselia who seemed to blossom as the light enveloped it. "Roselia is the embodiment of all these things." The trainer stepped into the light with her pokemon and ran her hand over the Roselia's head as it posed. A sweet scent began to waft outwards as it moved smoothly from pose to pose with practiced grace. "Born to be admired, raised to compete. Roselia embodies our quest for perfection as we endlessly strive to improve. She is my one and only pokemon, she is my friend, my ally and my partner in crime. Together we have traveled the world, we have fought battles and entered competitions. There is no challenge in this world that we can not face together." The violinist grinned. "and look absolutely stunning whilst doing it." She stepped next to the Roselia and faced the crowd. "We speak through actions and deeds. Words can not describe the beauty of this pokemon, both inside and out." She smiled as the lights faded to black. "Words can not describe perfection."
